Henna designs are both beautiful and healing. This ancient practice of using henna leaves as a dye to create designs for our bodies has become widely practiced in honour of fertility, betrothal, victory and adornment. In many cultures, the application of henna use rituals as a way to honour the process and allow the recipient to feel uplifted and positive. Henna can be used to enhance body parts before a wedding ceremony, on a pregnant belly to celebrate the pregnancy. Some like to call this a “Belly Blessing”! Birthdays and life events are often celebrated with henna. Henna can even celebrate the beginning of a special trip.

The Sacred Henna private Sessions I offer are at my home in Marmora, Ontario. You have a choice of a one hand/wrist and forearm design, an upper arm/bicep design, a palm design, or top of foot design. These designs take about 25 minutes to apply then require at least an hour to set before removing the henna paste, which will be dry about this amount of time. The Henna design will be light in some areas for the first few hours but will gradually become a rich chestnut colour within 15-24 hours. The henna design can last for anywhere from 1 week to 2 weeks depending on your individual skin type and exposure to sun, water, cleaning and skin care products.

Henna is made simply of Henna powder, essential oil, sugar and filtered water. I often apply a light spray of sugar and lemon juice to the wet henna paste to help secure the dye paste to your skin.

I offer two Sacred Henna Sessions. One session will be the application of the Henna design followed by a relaxing Reiki session.

The other option will be the application of the Henna Design followed by an oracle card reading.

Both session require about 90 minutes.

After Care

The application of henna creates a mildly cooling sensation on the skin until the henna dries. Some may feel a mild tingling, more like the feeling you get when you apply a clay mask to your face. Even though the henna has dried and the paste is removed you should avoid covering the area with clothing. If the henna paste is still damp and clinging to the skin it is not ready to remove. You want the dye molecules to absorb into your skin to create good colour and flow of your design.

Good Practices

Henna applications will only be offered to people over the age of six years old (who do not have G6PD deficiency).

If you have experienced a reaction to henna in the past, this may be due to an additive to the henna (PPD) which may cause adverse skin irritations. Natural henna powder is generally mixed with an essential oil, sugar and a small amount of water. Henna is only ever RED BROWN and never BLACK henna. This black henna is dangerous and often made with a chemical called PPD.
